About: The People Have Spoken
The People Have Spoken is a brand originally conceptualized
by Anita Bacic in 1998.
TPHS grew naturally from streetwear roots with Anita
operating a hip store on College Street in Toronto, Canada
during her time in film design and wanting to design and
produce what she couldn’t buy from her vendors. TPHS has
since then been present in the streetwear apparel market.
TPHS published 140,000 issues of their eponymous magazine.
The magazine was a cultural platform which prompted people
to speak out and have their voice heard and covered
everything from street level opinions to current music,
food and fashion trends. Speak / Listen / Look / Exchange
was the tag-line
In 2000 the primary focus was placed on the clothing
line which was experiencing tremendous growth.
TPHS morphed over the years away from its streetwear
beginnings into “street couture” Clothing that was
wearable, well made, and priced within reach.
TPHS has been carried in over 500 North American
stores and internationally in Japan, Korea, Mexico,
Australia, New Zealand, England and the U.K, and France.
Top accounts include Bloomingdales, Henri Bendel, Intermix,
E Street Denim, Spank Clothing & Body Blue.
Outerwear began to play a larger and larger role in
sales in the fall seasons of TPHS and a focus was placed on
pieces that would sustain multiple seasons and create a
feeling of comfort and protection.
TPHS became known for its woven and structured pieces with
comfortable stretch and fleece in combination.
Recently Anita has began using fabrications from renewable
resources such as Tencel (eucalyptus) and Modal (beechwood)
